About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Geospatial Engineer to join our pedestrian network group. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in building essential tools, algorithms, and solutions to work with various Geospatial data, with a focus on transit, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and solve real world problems. As a customer-facing GIS Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role bridging our technical GIS team with our clients. Your main responsibility will involve understanding client needs and delivering innovative Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions. From gathering requirements to implementing GIS applications, providing training, and ensuring successful deployments, you’ll be integral to our clients’ satisfaction.
In our dynamic work environment, you’ll collaborate with customers and team members across different time zones, fostering a global perspective and collaboration. Flexibility is key, as you may need to accommodate early mornings or late evenings to align with international schedules. Additionally, occasional travel to customer locations may be required, offering opportunities for firsthand engagement and relationship-building.

Gaussian Solutions has developed multimodal inputs to consistent representation of pedestrian networks in a graph routable format that enables multitude of downstream applications like customizable pedestrian routing applications, equity analysis, budget prioritization based on projected impact, and city infrastructure accessibility.
Location
Remote – Gaussian Solutions seeks candidates in the Pacific Time Zone or those able to work primarily overlapping hours with the Pacific Time Zone.
Must be available for at least two weekly meetings accommodating an international team.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Engagement: Engage with clients to understand their GIS requirements and objectives. Conduct needs assessments and gather detailed specifications to design tailored GIS solutions.
- Solution Development: Develop, customize, and implement GIS applications and tools based on client needs. Utilize GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS) and programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript) to create efficient and user-friendly GIS solutions.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients. Address and resolve any issues related to GIS applications, data, and processes.
- Training and Documentation: Conduct training sessions for clients to ensure they are proficient in using the GIS solutions provided. Create comprehensive documentation, user guides, and training materials.
- Project Management: Assist in managing multiple GIS projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project specifications. Coordinate with internal teams and clients to ensure project success.
- Data Management: Handle spatial data collection, processing, and analysis. Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security.
- Data Analysis: Join data from various open source and proprietary sources, and carry out the required analysis to answer and/or to address internal use cases or customer requested use cases.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in GIS application development, implementation, and support. Experience in a customer-facing role is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS), spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS), and programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript). Familiarity with web mapping technologies (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers) is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey technical information to non-technical clients effectively.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly.
- Customer Service Orientation: Strong customer service skills with a focus on understanding and meeting client needs. Ability to build and maintain positive client relationships.
- Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Experience with project management tools and methodologies is a plus.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively and wear different hats in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with colleagues across different time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: GIS-related certifications (e.g., GISP, ESRI Technical Certification) are a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
In the city of Seattle, WA, the salary range for this position is $120,000-$130,000.
Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualifications, and training. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.

- Program Management: Lead and manage multiple geospatial software development projects, from planning through execution and delivery. Coordinate across teams including engineering, data science, product management, and quality assurance to ensure successful product development. Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and follow up on the execution to meet milestones and deliverables.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as a primary liaison between technical teams, product management, and external partners to ensure alignment on goals, priorities, and technical requirements. Communicate project status, risks, and deliverables to executives and other stakeholders, providing regular updates and facilitating decision-making processes. Engage with customers to understand their technical and business needs and ensure that products meet their requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geospatial Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in technical program management, project management, or similar roles, ideally within geospatial software, data processing, or a related industry. Proven experience managing software development projects, including agile methodologies, sprint planning, and backlog management. PMP, Scrum Master, or similar project management certification is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of geospatial technologies, including GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing, spatial data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, shapefiles), and spatial analysis. Ability to navigate technical discussions with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to make informed decisions.
